Tumblr and a whole lot of CSS 2 over two days

I only just started a tumblelog and have fallen in love with the service. In the last couple of days I really wanted to get some control over the theming of my site so I decided to dive into making a theme. I started with Bill Israel’s beautiful Letterhead theme and found myself drawn deep into CSS. After approximately 20 hours of figuring out visual formatting models and the quirks of CSS and browsers, I am finally pleased to have completed the first draft of the theme. Visually it is not very different from Letterhead but introduces a hybrid liquid/elastic layout to better deal with font and browser-window resizing. I intend to add support for social media follow/subscribe links due to their reigning popularity.

The only reason that I can think of for having spent so long on this is the relative ease with which one can create a really powerful multi-media content presentation system. I think Tumblr is a great service. I tried Wordpress about a year ago and did not find it as flexible.

Thanks Tumblr!
